Tropical Bottling Company

Dating back to the early 20th century, Tropical Bottling Company N.V. is the franchised bottler for Aruba of Coca Cola and its product extensions. Its rich history reaches as far back as the Second World War at which time it was the sole soft-drink supplier to the United States’ – and Allies’ military personnel stationed on the island.

The Tropical Bottling Company (TBC) was purchased by the De Veer family in 1948 affirming its position as the first company to produce and distribute sodas on our island. First established in the ‘Ritz Building’, lack of production and storage space required the move to a new location at L.G. Smith Boulevard, currently the site of our ‘Carry Out’ in Oranjestad.

The company was the first Caribbean bottler of the popular two-liter package. It supplies a complete range of post-mix products and equipment.

In the mid 1960’s, the commercial activities by TBC resulted in a 30% market share in the Aruba.

By 1999, TBC merged with the newly built company ‘Brouwerij Nacional Balashi’, which facility was situated in the district of Balashi.

Today the company is recognized as the largest industrial company in the beverage industrial sector. The company offers quality products to its clients and has successfully introduced a vast array of products to the local market.

Anno 2014, Tropical TBC is environmentally conscious, constantly on the look-out for ‘green’ solutions; as an example, the new PET bottles were changed to ‘less plastic’, lighter and slimmer with shorter caps and more efficient labels.

Brouwerij Nacional Balashi

The ‘Brouwerij Nacional Balashi’ was established in 1998 as a result from a cooperation between Meta Corp N.V. and a German company called Brewtech GMBH, specialists in brewing high quality beer. The cooperation included the launch of a brewery in Aruba that will produce quality beer.

From the initial ‘get-go’, BNB produced beer with the name ‘Balashi’, a name with solid Aruban heritage. At that time, world renowned brand ‘Grolsch’ (from the Netherlands) was also brewed locally, providing the necessary quality awareness for the Aruba community. As ‘Balashi’ grew increasingly popular as the only local beer, the decision was made to exclusively brew the local brew at BNB.

Our beer is produced in a fully automated process with special software that guarantees production against the highest sustainability standards, ensuring high quality beer at all times. As a result of our constant quality standards, ‘Balashi’received international recognition winning a Gold Medal in the ‘Monde Selection’ category in Brussels 2001, and in 2004 our local beer was awarded the Grand Gold medal of the ‘Monde Selection’ in Brussels.

In 2009, we introduced a new beer with the name ‘Balashi Chill, currently better known under the name ‘Chill’. In the tradition of beer brewing, this particular beer is more Caribbean in taste, crisp and refreshing, making it ideal for export to other islands around us.

In 2013, ‘Chill’ was awarded the international ‘ITQI Superior Taste Award’, yet another affirmation of the quality products being produced right here in Aruba, at the ‘Brouwerij Nacional Balashi’.
