Beringer Founders’ Estate offers handcrafted wines that are food-friendly and immediately enjoyable. Each varietal is true to its classic characteristics, with a consistently smooth and fruit-forward profile. These wines display a delicate balance of fruit and acidity, to ensure successful pairing with a variety of foods.
Beringer Founders’ Estate Merlot was chosen from vineyards in Central California along with select vineyards on the North Coast. The California coast offers vineyards full of grapes that are cooled by maritime influences, while mountain vineyards in the interior produce grapes of great intensity and flavor. The grapes picked reflect the diverse microclimates of each area producing a wonderful depth of flavor, elegance and intensity.
The Beringer winemaking team worked closely with the viticulture department to determine when each vineyard reached full maturity. Small amounts of Petite Syrah and Syrah were added for complexity and depth of flavors. Half of the wine was aged in seasoned French, American and Hungarian oak to add toastiness and hints of brown spice to the final blend.
The Beringer Founders’ Estate Merlot is approachable and delicious. Hints of plum and brown spice on the nose compliment the boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry finish on the palate. It’s well-balanced, soft tannins make this wine a perfect accompaniment to a variety of foods, such as grilled meats or hearty vegetable dishes.
